Review: Badger Cocoa Butter Lip Balm in Sweet Orange

Goal: to find a natural lip balm

This is replacing: my softlips balm

Fair Trade: Yes

Organic: Yes (certified through USDA and by the Oregon Tilth)

Vegan Info: contains beeswax

Cruelty Free: Yes (certified through Leaping Bunny: meaning that all their suppliers are also cruelty free!)

Their Description: “Our creamy Cocoa Butter Lip Balms come in a larger .25oz stick with a magical Badger on the label! These dreamy balms feature a rich base of certified organic cocoa butter, certified organic Extra Virgin Olive oil, golden yellow beeswax and CO2 extracts of Seabuckthorn and Rose Hip – natural, plant-based antioxidants. They also contain an organic Aloe Vera Extract for added dry weather protection. The cocoa butter helps the staying power of the balm, keeping lips moisturized and soothed for a good, long time. Thick, creamy, and long lasting.”

Ingredients: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Cocoa Butter, Golden Yellow Beeswax, Castor Bean Oil, Extract of Aloe Vera, and CO2 Extracts of Rosehip, Seabuckthorn Berry & Rosemary (yay for no parabens and sulfates)

Price: $5.00 (on website) I purchased mine at Wegman’s for $3.95

Size: .25

Texture: harder (gets softer when warmed) and thicker than typical lip balm, but does not tug at the lips.

Scent: smells like orange and cocoa butter (reminds me a little of chocolate oranges!); absolutely delicious!

Packaging: At first the packaging seemed kinda bulky, but I’ve come to like it better than traditional lip balm tubes. For one, it’s easier to find in my purse, and for two, I love the amount of product I get. Like traditional tubes, you turn a wheel to twist up more product only with this product the wheel is located between the cap and the tub. I like this better as it reduces the chances of getting turned when stored loose in my bag. Also I can hold the tube and turn the wheel to get more product with one hand J

Application: one swipe does ya!

Product used for: three months regularly, one month every few days or so

Can be purchased at: www.badgerbalm.com or Wegman’s or Whole Foods

Loved: The scent of chocolate and oranges is so delicious! It’s nice to find some natural products that don’t smell quite so “earthy”(not that there’s anything wrong with that). The ingredients are fantastic, and the company itself is very impressive. The lip balm is very conditioning with non-toxic ingredients so accidentally ingesting some of the product will not present any harm unlike some other lip products on the market. The packaging is well-thought out and durable. The product was made using conscientious supplies and processes.

Hated: The only negative comment I have about this product is that it’s very thick. I’m use to softlips which really glides on (meaning I go through tubes like crazy). I’ve used this almost everyday for three months and have half a tube left. I find that this is perfect for an over-night treatment or after exfoliating my lips, but it’s not the best for light moisture throughout the day. I would not recommend this as a base for lipstick because it’s so creamy (the color would run right off). However, if I wait about thirty minutes it makes lip products apply much smoother. I have severely chapped lips. That being said, since I’ve started using this product I am finding my lips overall are softer.

Overall Rating: 4/5 (not 5 because I think the thick consistency could be off-putting to a lot of folks)

This product was purchased with my own money. I have no affiliation with this company. My reviews are my honest opinion. Image from www.badgerbalm.com. Please leave comments, comparisons, or questions below! Thanks!

Introduction!

Greetings all! I wanted to start off with a post regarding my hopes and plans for this blog (and of course some classic disclaimers). The purpose of this blog is to create a resource for people to educate each other on the personal care products in their lives. This includes but is not limited to: hair care products, skin care products, cosmetics, clothing, accessories for all of the above, and other personal items. It is NOT my intent (or hope for others) to scare people into making changes in their life. Personal change should be the outcome of knowledge not fear. Let us all be more aware of are products. This is a place where I will share my knowledge (with accountable sources were applicable) about different products, ingredients, companies, and do-it-yourself tips to try and live a simpler, cheaper, and healthier life. It is my hope that others will come and comment to share their questions, concerns, and knowledge. We have the ability to create together a community of well-informed, intelligent, compassionate consumers. Let's learn to question before we purchase. What's in this product? Will this product be useful? Do I actually need/want this product?...etc. So welcome! Please prop up your feet, grab a hot cup of tea, and hopefully we can all learn from each other!

Disclaimers: All information provided is my personal opinion. All products reviewed are done so with my honest feedback. Anyone who comments or contacts me, I will treat with respect and compassion, and I expect that of others. Any comments that are personal attacks to myself or others (as opposed to respectful, intellectual disagreements) will be removed immediately from this blog. So, everyone play nice and have a good time!
